Season 9, Episode 25

We’re as surprised as you at the following link.

We’re back from E3 and we’re not sure what to think of everything. Microsoft, we felt, had a very decent showing and Sony was more than we ever expected as far as the megaton’s were concerned. While we do hit each and every showing at E3, it’s the remake of Final Fantasy 7 that gives us the most conversation. It’s a nostalgia I am not familiar with, but one I wish I was after listening to James talk about it and reading the chat room.

For some things, you just had to be there.

Season 8, Episode 24

We’re all dressed up with nothing to play at the following link.

E3’s annual blitz of showmanship and overpromises has come and gone and left a whole lot of nothing in its wake.  2015 will evidently be a good year for those of us with disposable income and a strong yen for gaming, but the outlook for this year remains tame.  There’s still a few things to look forward to, no doubt, and there’s always that backlog we’d like to address.  And, of course, it turns out that Bungie and Activision’s Destiny is turning our heads in a way we hadn’t expected.  The surprise alpha access was maybe the best thing on offer last week, and it looks like it will fill the sadly empty bill nicely this fall.

Season 7, Episode 19

We’ve been ridden hard and put up wet at the following link.

I dearly love E3.  It is dramatic and excessive and extraordinary in a way the other fifty one weeks of the year could never be.  I also deeply despise the aftermath, and the obligatory post-E3 discussion.  Anyone who has attended the show is afflicted with shell shock, and those who’ve followed closely from home are lost somewhere between the signal and the noise.  But we’ve got to get it done with, yes?  One great, giant heave of fact and opinion, spun nearly out of control.  I honestly can’t wait to spend an hour again covering a solitary PR fuckup from EA.

Season 6, Episode 9

We’re well overdue at the following link.

There’s not much that hasn’t been said about E3 at this point, but we like to think our point of view is still worth a little something, even after all this time.  We can at least revel in the energy that seemed to be everywhere right after the expo, as it seems to have vanished completely in the summer doldrums.  It’s on its way again, I’m told, but I’m cranky and impatient and I want another shot of new-release hype.  But I’ve already got what I need, I know.  There’s a substantial backlog of great games to deal with.  I’m running out of reasons to avoid them, and those reasons were never good to begin with.

Season 6, E3 Special

This episode doesn’t bear much similarity to the rest of our work.  We wanted to tease out some of Scott’s feelings about E3 while the trip was still fresh in his mind, and we were more interested in his ground-level view than anything else.  There were a lot of rough feelings during and just after this year’s expo, and it’s hard to understand why some of us make so much noise about the show and so little about the games it’s there to highlight.  We don’t have any answers here, just exhaustion and frustration and an awful lot of yearning.  Next year’s show might just turn it all around, right?

The Body Mod Episode

We’re heavily augmented at the following link.

There’s only this year’s E3 to be dealt with tonight.  We’ve got nothing on our minds but what the hype machine says we should.  Though I wonder, after what Scott says about Kinect Star Wars, if he might not be plugged in to a different machine altogether. One more reason this expo should no longer be reported on or attended in person by humans.  Maybe I can subscribe to a telepresence feed sourced by a cloud of journalist-nanobots?  Or is that what I’m doing already?

The Tiger Balls Episode

Two in the bush are worth less than you’d imagine at the following link.

The content of this episode is nothing more than our breathless and shellshocked analysis of E3 – an analysis I’ve come to believe makes as little sense as the expo’s press conferences and show floor.  It is inevitable that we spend several long hours once a year detailing our reactions to the industry’s largest collection of lies, misdirection, marketeering and swank gameplay videos.  Unfortunately, our senses are crippled in the aftermath, and our opinions aren’t worth half what they might be in the weeks and months to come, when statements have been clarified and timelines made firm.  In the meantime, we offer a record of our own imperfect understanding of the event in question.

The Ninety Three Meg Episode

IGC’s over-stuffed and long-winded E3 episode is now available for download.

We abandoned last week’s recording session in favor of sending Scott to the source of all our favorite noise, and so that the rest of us could be free to ingest all the televised, tweeted, forum-certified hype of the extravaganza without taking pause to discuss it.  Having made that sacrifice, we take extra pause this week to make up for lost time.  Here’s hoping you have four hours of your life you weren’t planning to use for anything else.

The depth of the information stream coming out of E3 makes it hard to discuss every meaningful aspect of the expo in one session, and just as unlikely that we can do more than hint at the podcast’s content in this summary.  We’ve elected to discuss our recollections of the coverage as much as possible instead of relaying hard data or consulting accurate notes.  We’re sure to have missed several somethings of importance, but the facts are clearly better gathered elsewhere, and this lets us preserve what may well have been our best reactions had we been together last week and heard the latest updates in unison.

Just off to the side of E3 is the important matter of what we’ve been playing while the industry tells us what we wish we were playing.  For us – all but Scott, unfortunately – that time has been devoted to our fascination with inFamous.  We intro the show with a half hour of cryptic double talk about the game, and end it with a second half hour on the other side of a spoiler threshold we really hope you can cross.

EAR Episode 115: The E3 Show

This episode is full. We simply can’t fit anymore into it. And yet we still didn’t get out everything we wanted to talk about. E3 may be small, but the information we get out of it is enough to fill nearly three hours. It’s a full plate and we go over all the big news from the week that was. Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and the games as well including Borderlands, Sonic, Op. Flashpoint 2, Empire Total War, Killzone 2, Halo Wars, MK Vs. DC, H.A.W.X., Far Cry 2, MAG, and so very much more. Bapenguin even calls in and gives us the info of games he got to play on the last day of E3, plus he and I personally (and by name) thank everyone who donated to get us out there.

The episode is stacked and the episode after the episode is running over with info as well. James goes over his new PC build and all the MMO’s he’s loaded into the thing and WWII Online is discussed  leading us into our discussion of the Too Human demo. Plus, we can’t go without talking of The Dark Knight – spoiler-free, of course.

EAR Episode E3: The Third Day

We’re tired. Again. And again we sat down and tried to punch out a quick episode telling you about everything we saw today, but this mini-episode is close to 45 minutes long. So yeah, we failed that. But, I think you’ll enjoy this go round as we saw a ton more games than we have previous days and had some hands on time with a lot of them as well. We talk about Far Cry 2, H.A.W.X., Brothers In Arms, Fallout 3, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, LEGO Batman, Project Origin, MK vs. DC (we liked it), and we also got to see The Who, in concert (for free), at a Rock Band party.

It was a jam packed day and this episode is jam packed full of news and totally foul language.

EAR Episode E3: The Second Day

We’re tired. We knew that going in and we figured this would be a quick episode. We were wrong and again (as you’ll find out from listening), my estimate was way off. It’s the second day of E3 and Nick and I are back with our thoughts of what took place during the day and we run down some of the other games we took a look at as well. We start off with Nintendo, and I’ll tell you now – we weren’t happy. At all. But as the day went on we completely forgot about Nintendo (as they seem to have done with gamers) and actually managed to save what was left of the day by checking out more games. We got closer looks at Operation Flashpoint 2, Sonic Unleashed, Mad World, Left 4 Dead, Rock Band 2, and a few others as well.

We talk about them all and a whole lot more in this mini-episode of Evil Avatar Radio.

Tomorrow is the final full day for me here at E3 and we’re going to one again try and knock out another show for you at the end of the day tomorrow. We still have lots more to look at and talk about, so check back again tomorrow for Day 3.

EAR Episode E3: The First Day

So you thought there’d be no episode of Evil Avatar Radio tonight, huh? Well, you’re right. In it’s common form, there isn’t, but Nick and I decided to sit down and talk about the day and our thoughts of the whole thing. Honestly, it isn’t really anything you don’t already know if you’ve been keeping up with the great coverage on the site, but if you’re looking for our opinions and thoughts well…here they are. It’s a mini-episode, even though it runs nearly an hour in proper form.

Day two will be a long one for us. Not sure if we’ll get another show under us during all that we have lined up, but we’re going to try and give it a shot.

EAR Episode 114: “Pre-E3: Bad Company”

So, what did we learn from this episode of Evil Avatar Radio? Well, right out of the gate we learned that watching G4 for E3 coverage is actually a bad idea. Speaking of E3, we talked to Bapenguin & AgtFox about the upcoming event itself and ran down the list of meetings and appointments scheduled for myself and the Bapster (that was fun to say outloud, actually) as he and I head off to LA next week. Also in this episode we hear a lot about Battlefield: Bad Company. In fact, it’s a subject that just can’t seem to stay away during the show. And we learn that it’s not that bad of a game and may well warrant the full price of admission. But I still haven’t played it yet.

After the show it’s all PC talk as we go into the situation James had with his recent build. Actually, he hasn’t even begun to build yet thanks to a problem during shipping.  Jeremy continues playing Diablo 2 (just as he was doing during the show itself) and we’re joined by our producer, Kevin, who brings us good news (he finally played Portal) and bad news (he isn’t making it to PAX).

In-Game Chat Ep24 07-16-07

Wow. What a week it’s been. Tons upon tons of news to cover. E3 has come and gone and left behind a lot of news in it’s wake, not to mention a lot of people scratching their heads as to Sony’s price cut/non-price cut, Nintendo’s Wii Board, and then there’s Microsoft who didn’t leave us with as much confusion so much as they just didn’t surprise us with anything. It’s been a full week of news and almost every game cast is covering the fallout of E3. We covered E3 from top to bottom and we spoke to Evil Avatar’s Nick Puleo (BAPenguin) who attended this year’s event and got his thoughts on both E3 as a whole and on the games he witnessed while there. We took your calls in to Nick, and gave away another free rental from our friends at Movie Gallery/Gamezone. It’s all that and more of all things “gaming”, here on In-Game Chat!!

Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, and other developers have raised their curtains on their upcoming projects and we brought you as many highlights as we can of what has been revealed so far. We’re going to try and get on the phone with Evil Avatar’s Nick Puleo (BAPenguin) who is at E3 and get his impressions of what he’s seen so far, so strap in, and enjoy a special E3 edition show, right here, on In-Game Chat!!
